(What Awaits Us)
Júlio Lancellotti is a priest who has dedicated his life to the church's social work and has become one of the greatest leaders in the fight for human rights in Brazil. But at the age of 72, he has to intensify his routine to face the humanitarian crisis that has taken over the city of São Paulo. A situation that was already aggravated with Bolsonaro coming to power becomes unbearable with the poor management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Júlio finds himself immersed in the inexhaustible demands of the homeless population that only grows in numbers.

Bruno Xavier, Chico Bahia
Directors
Bruno Xavier is a director, screenwriter, and creator of the short film WHAT AWAITS US. Economist from PUC-SP and a Geographer from the University of São Paulo, he holds a master's degree from USP and from the Center University of New York, where he was advised by David Harvey. He is a researcher, translator, and editor of books that deal with the crisis of capitalism, urbanization, and racism in Brazil and in the USA, such as Carceral Capitalism, by Jackie Wang, and Golden Gulag, by Ruth Wilson Gilmore. He writes for Le Monde Diplomatique Brasil and blogs. He collaborated on the screenplay and was also assistant director and sound technician in the feature film Babylon (Chico Bahia, in post), a Brazil-France co-production. He works as a volunteer with Father Júlio Lancellotti, experience that motivated him to create WHAT AWAITS US, his first documentary short film.
Chico Bahia is a Brazilian filmmaker. He has directed short and medium-length films, and in 2023 he will release his first feature film, "Babylon", a Brazil/France co-production selected for the Fabrique Cinéma at the Cannes Film Festival. He has acted as DOP in documentaries for TV and cinema and today works as a reporter for TV Globo's Profissão Repórter.
